Ring and Ride Plymouth Mobility Bus
Ring and Ride is a shopping service for disabled and frail elderly people living in Plymouth who are unable to use normal public transport. Wheelchair accessible buses collect and return passengers to and from their own homes and take them to Plymouth City Centre, Tesco Supermarket at Transit Way and Sainsbury's at Marsh Mills.
Services operate Monday - Friday between 10.00 am and 3.00 pm.
City Centre passengers can be dropped off at the specially designated bus bay on the roundabout outside Derry's Departmental Store or at our premises in Mayflower Street East Car Park.
Passengers pre-book their journey at least 24 hours in advance by phoning 600633, although it is advisable to book earlier as the services are often heavily subscribed. Any bookings can be dealt with much easier if calls are made a.m.
We can take bookings up to 12 days prior to the journey and passengers may take an able bodied partner or escort if necessary. All buses have tail-lifts for easy access. Guide dogs are accepted but please inform us when booking.

Community Cars
Community Car is a 'not for profit' car sharing scheme to assist disabled and frail elderly persons (who are unable to use the mainstream public transport in Plymouth) use services they would otherwise not be able to access.
Volunteer drivers using their own vehicles can take you to the shops, hairdressers, doctors, dentists, lunch clubs, bingo, day centres, hospital visits or practically anywhere you want to go during weekdays between 9.00 am. and 4.30 pm. (NB: we do not cover Hospital appointments).
At least two working days notice is required to book a journey and passengers are invoiced on a monthly basis for all trips made. Such reservations may be made via our usual number 01752 600633, preferably a.m.
This service does not operate at weekends or Bank Holiday.
Shop Mobility - Mobile Unit, Wheelchair & Scooter Hire
Shopmobility is a scheme that provides manual or powered wheelchairs and a large range of scooters to help people who have mobility problems shop and use the city centre facilities of Plymouth. The service is available to residents and visitors to Plymouth, young or old and irrespective of whether their disability or mobility problem is temporary or permanent.
It is advisable to book (01752 600633) at least 24 hours in advance to ensure that suitable equipment is available on your arrival, preferably a.m.
On your first visit you will be asked to produce some form of identification and complete a simple registration form.
A member of staff will demonstrate the use of the vehicle, give you tuition and allow you to practice if necessary. When we are satisfied you are able to drive the vehicle safely, you will be free to roam the city centre on your own.
Most of our power wheelchairs have dual controls enabling either occupant or helper to control.
OPENING HOURS: Monday - Friday 9.15 am. to 4.30 pm. Saturday 9.15 am. to 4.00 pm - see more.
Funds are always needed to meet equipment replacement and maintenance costs, so your donations are welcome.
Mobile Unit
The Mobile Shopmobility Unit is a low floor vehicle built especially to carry wheelchairs and scooters to areas of Plymouth that previously may have been inaccessible to people with mobility problems. The service currently operates on the Hoe promenade and fore shore from June to September (weather permitting!) each Thursday from 10.00am until 2.00pm.
A variety of wheelchairs / scooters are available for everyone, young or old and irrespective of whether the disability or mobility problem is temporary or permanent. There is a small charge for this service and you will be asked to produce some form of identification (showing your name and address) - a simple registration form will also need to be completed.
It would be helpful if you could book at least 24 hours in advance as the mobile unit can only carry a limited number of wheelchairs / scooters. The period of hire may also be restricted if bookings are heavy.
Wheelchair Hire
If you haven't used a scooter / wheelchair before, a member of staff will demonstrate and give you tuition. When we are satisfied you are able to operate the scooter / wheelchair safely, you will be free to roam the designated area on your own. Please Note: For health and safety reasons there may be a number of 'NO GO' areas of which you will be informed. We will provide information for each locality explaining the exact areas you can use your scooter / wheelchair.
Maximum hire for each wheelchair is three months; however, if necessary a longer hire can be arranged but the chair needs to be brought back in and swapped for another. This is an insurance requirement.
Scooter Hire
These scooters are only suitable for users who experience difficulty or discomfort walking for prolonged periods, but have the use of both legs and the physical, visual and cognitive ability to operate the scooter safely.
Taxi Card
Taxi-card is available to people living in the Plymouth area who are dependent on a wheelchair at all times and unable to travel in an ordinary saloon car.
Financed by Plymouth City Council, the scheme is administered by Access Plymouth who currently offer registered users a 50% refund on taxi fares up to a pre-set quarterly limit.
To register, you complete an application form (available on request) or you can view and print the form online in Word Doc or PDF format, the form must be countersigned by your doctor. You will also need to provide a passport size photograph for your ID card.
Claims for refunds are normally met within 10 days.
Full details of scheme provided on request.
